When speaking of glaucoma tend to generalize without considering that there are different types of glaucoma that broadly fall into two main groups: open-angle glaucoma and angle closure glaucoma. Dr. Sergio Bonafont, director of the Center of Ophthalmology BONAFONT of Barcelona, the center of reference when it comes to treatment of eye problems, explains the differences between both diseases and what ways exist as a solution to each of them.

Open Angle Glaucoma
In this case what happens is that the liquid that makes eye leaking badly, so that the intraocular pressure rises. This causes the retina to be injured and cause problems in the eye and related to the disease.

Closed-Angle Glaucoma
With respect to closed-angle glaucoma what happens is there is no way that the eye fluid to leak, causing a sudden rise in intraocular pressure. The eye becomes red and painful congestive. If detected early it is possible to correct the problem, but many people in the past, had just taking a blind after having suffered much pain for this type of glaucoma.

Normal Values of Ocular Pressure
Ocular pressure values are those established as normal, ranging from 12mm up to 22mm of mercury. However, this concept, as indicated by Dr. BONAFONT, already outdated as it is known that there are more patterns to determine if you suffer from glaucoma or not. In fact 30% of people who have this disease presents a correct intraocular pressure, but is deteriorating visual field and optic nerve, therefore, breaks down. Glaucoma is a disease that everyone can develop, especially if a family history, and that usually appear around age 50.

Glaucoma Treatments
The first step in treatment is through drops. If the patient does not respond as it should opt for laser shots with the angle of the anterior chamber to open the filter of aqueous humor. There are also many advances in what refers to drug treatments because each day there are new drugs that produce fewer reactions and are more effective. Droplets which are currently available way to treat a very convenient way glaucoma.

Treatment Issues
The treatment-related problems are basically two. On the one hand the abandonment of the same as the glaucoma, despite being a chronic disease, no disease with pain. The other complication is given by allergic reactions to certain additives and preservatives in the drops. Solve a Glaucoma Surgery
Closed glaucoma cases are treated first with anti-inflammatory substances that lower the intraocular pressure. Next, each laser shot to make a hole on the iris and that it passes the fluid from behind the lens. In the case of open glaucoma what must be done is an inner hole on the white of the eye that allow liquid to go out and stay below the very structures of the eye. 80% of cases treated with surgery is resolved successfully, and 15% of them required a new intervention or the use of drops after a while.
