Is It Dangerous to Consumption Sweetener?

is it dangerous to consumption sweetener? The case of sweeteners is much more beneficial than table sugar. There are several types and substances, but in general, one can say that it is artificial substances usually contain fewer calories and a great sweetness.

Are substances that have been widely studied to see whether they are safe or not. With the data obtained in these studies were determined safe doses of consumption, amounting to a hundredth of the amount was “no effect” negative animals. This value is called “ADI (acceptable daily intake or tolerable) indicated per kg weight of the individual. So, for a child will be much easier to reach this value as an adult, since their weight is lower and the ADI value is multiplied by the weight.

That is, if we take the example of a gas-cola Light, containing per 100 mL, 6 mg of saccharin, cyclamate 32 mg and 12 mg of aspartame (ADI = 0 to 2.5 mg/kg for saccharin, 0-11 mg/kg cyclamate, 0-40 mg/kg/day for aspartame), a 70 kg may exceed the ADI for saccharin drinking 3 liters/day (175 mg/day of saccharin), the ADI of cyclamate with only 2.5 liters/day (770 mg/day of cyclamate) and aspartame with 23 liters/day (2800 mg/day of aspartame). Drink 3 liters of soda in one day is not impossible. Now if we consider a baby of 14 kg, 600 mL drinking would be exceeding the ADI for saccharin and cyclamate as well as a child of 35 kg of exceed 1.5 liters.

Another example is artificial juices, because whether or not dietary, many of them contain artificial sweeteners that are added to decrease the volume of dust, being that the volume occupied by an artificial sweetener is much smaller than the sugar used to sweeten the same quantity of a product. That is why the problem becomes increasingly important, due to indiscriminate use of sweeteners in various industrial products.

Considering that regular consumption of juice drinks among children is common and light soft drink consumption is increasing among them, and adding to these, other products that can be consumed during the day, we can see that in the case of children is not so difficult to exceed the ADI of some artificial sweeteners. Although the ADI is not a threshold of toxicity, would be desirable to avoid overcome, because it is still necessary to conduct further research, especially in regard to chronic toxicity. Therefore, it is good to have some caution in the consumption of artificial sweeteners and additives in general, with special care when it comes to babies and children.
