Bladder Stones: Detection and Treatment
How to detect bladder stones?
The bladder stones were detected by ultrasound or radiography. In the latter case, we must take into account that some stones (uric acid) that can not be seen on plain radiographs that would require a contrast examination (called urography) to be detected. Can also be checked by performing a cystoscopy, which is introduced into the bladder through the urethra, a tube-shaped instrument to view or capture long video images inside.
How are bladder stones?
There is no treatment with drugs that solves the problem in most cases. The smaller stones can be removed during cystoscopy (local anesthesia), using a clip. When they are older, the extraction of stones requires a more complex intervention. This may be a fragmentation of the stone through the scope (using remote-controlled forceps that crush, but can also be used for this purpose ultrasound, laser, etc.). Or through open surgery (opening of the bladder through a small incision in the abdomen).
We must not forget that in addition to removing the stones, must act on the cause that has led (urinary obstruction, infection, etc).
