What is the flu?
Influenza is a viral disease caused by a type of virus called Influenza. Usually occurs between October and May and usually lasts three to five days, although fatigue can be followed for two or three weeks. Causes muscle pain and joint pain, headache, sore throat, cough and fever between 38.5 and 40 °C.
Although complications are rare, it can become much more serious illness, especially if a secondary infection by bacteria, causing mainly pneumonia, and less commonly, nerve damage and brain, and even death.
As a viral infection can not be treated with antibiotics. The best remedy is rest and drink plenty of fluids.
It is possible to get a flu shot, it is recommended especially in older people and people with heart and lung diseases. It is advisable to consult your family doctor in late September to consider the need to be vaccinated or not.
