Cervical polyps
Definition:
These are benign growths that appear on the neck of the uterus or cervix. Usually they cause no symptoms and without a gynecological exam can be missed. They are more common in premenopausal women than in those who are past the menopause. They can grow within the cervix and block the channel or can be suspended from the neck into the vagina.
Causes:
The cause is unknown. However, doctors have observed that polyps appear in areas where there is erosion of the lining of the neck.
Signs and Symptoms:
The main symptoms are:
* Vaginal bleeding especially after intercourse or when washing
* Pain during sex
Diagnosis:
You should consult your doctor if you experience vaginal bleeding other than menstruation. Most times these hemorrhages are caused by alterations that are not malignant and can be treated easily, however, should not spend more time as they can be the first sign of any serious illness such as cancer.
Treatment:
The doctor will ask a gynecological examination and laboratory tests to rule out other causes of bleeding. The treatment can follow two paths:
1. Phase conservative: Do not mobilize the polyp
2. Surgical Phase: If the doctor thinks it appropriate may be removed by surgery
